Bible Study

Our Bible Study meets on Wednesdays at 11am in the Conference Room located near the front entrance of the church.  Our next meeting will be January 19 at 11:00am.  We use a program from Liturgical Press: Ponder: Contemplative Bible Study, which is a lectionary based program.  Join with fellow parishioners in a time of listening and praying with Scripture.  Just bring a Bible, a notebook and an open heart!  Everyone is welcome!

Come and join us in a time of discussion and prayer with Scripture, as we reflect on the power of Jesus in our own life and in the Church. Luke 1:1-4, 4:14-21.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18)

This passage was familiar to the Jewish people, because it was an Old Testament prophecy concerning the release of the Jews from Babylonian captivity. Jesus meant the “poor” as those who had no grace and lacked union with God. Divine favor is not a title of privilege but a call to transformative action. This week, we will consider how we respond to this promise.
