Lent at Saint Raphael Parish

“Yet even now – oracle of the Lord – return to me
with your whole heart, with fasting, weeping and mourning” (Joel 2:12).

What is Lent?

Lent is the liturgical season before Easter.  It is a forty day season in which we are called to deepen our prayer, our fasting and our almsgiving.  Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday.  It is a period of preparation, as we look forward to celebrating the Lord’s Resurrection at Easter.  During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading scripture, serving others and giving alms and fasting.  We are called to abstain from luxuries during this season and to practice self-control.  Fridays are a day of abstinence.

Read “The Passion of the Infant Christ” with us!: All are invited to join us Thursday afternoons as we delve Caryll Houselander’s spiritual classic, The Passion of the Infant Christ.  Beginning February 26 – March 19, we will be meeting Thursdays at 12:30pm in the church Conference Room.  We look forward to having Kelley Spoerl, PhD as our facilitator.  A light lunch will be available, or you are welcome to bring your own lunch.

Stations of the Cross: Join us every Friday during Lent following our noon Mass for Stations of the Cross.

Soup and Stations: Join us on February 20 for Soup & Stations.  All attending are asked to bring a crockpot of your best soup to share and printed copies of your recipe.  Salad, bread and dessert will be provided.  Dinner begins at 6pm, followed by Stations of the Cross at 7pm in the church.  Please RSVP to our parish office at 603.623.2604 by February 17th for planning!
